Children's Story

Stories for my grandson are children's stories I wrote while I took a writing course. Children often like to imagine and day dream a lot. These are short stories for easy reading. I hope children all over the world will read and enjoy them. Some drawings are drawn by a local artist David Fam, my brother. To view his drawings, http://davidsartgallery.blogspot.com

THE QUEST(drawings by David Fam)

THE QUEST
copyright(c)by May Fam.

The King has a message for a strong young man. A quest with a handsome reward.
‘How handsome?’ ‘How strong, how young?’ ‘Where to?’ People were pushing and yelling altogether. Each trying to read the notice on the wall.
Lance, said to his friend,
‘A handsome reward indeed! Come on, Buttons, let us go to the Palace.’
Someone said, ‘This journey is long and dangerous, is it worth the gold coins?’

Another said, ‘You have to go through the Enchanted Forest and the Seven Lakes. No one has gone and come back alive! Some even said there are monsters, goblins and flesh eating plants. A road that goes nowhere.’

In the Palace, The wizard said,
‘Before you both leave, you have to know the story. Our beautiful Queen is very sad. A raven came to visit her and asked her for her hair to line his nest for his babies.

The Queen refused, the raven put a curse on her. All her beautiful hair fell off and she is now bald.
In the Forest of the Seven Lakes, on one of the lakes grows a Hair Tree. This tree only seed once in a hundred years.

Find the seed and bring it back to the Queen. She will rub the juice into her scalp and her hair will grow back.
You both have three weeks before the moon is full. That is the time the seed pod will burst and nothing will be left to gather.

You must pick the seed pod before it ripens or your journey will be wasted. Here are three bags, use them carefully.
They will save your lives. Hurry, if you do not get back in time, all the ladies in the Kingdom too will be bald. Start your journey now’.

After walking for days, they came to a clearing. Lance said,
‘Buttons, be very careful. It is too quiet to be safe. Look on the ground over there. The grass seems to be moving’. Lance took a twig and threw it over the grass. Immediately, they saw tiny claws reached out and snapped the twig into tiny bits. Buttons said,

‘That was quick, what shall we do now? We cannot fly across and there is no way around’.
Lance opened one of the bags; it was full of dried rose twigs. He said to Buttons,
‘When I throw these twigs, the claws will be busy snapping them; we have to run over them quickly. I hope we have enough twigs to make it over the other side’.
Buttons was panting, said,
‘We are safely across; we did it.How many days do we have left? Do we have enough food? Lance, I’m frightened, we may not make it back in time’.
Lance replied,
‘We have about ten days left. Don’t worry; we’ll make it back in time’.
One morning, as Lance was looking around, he shouted,
‘Wake up Buttons, look over there. The Seven Lakes see the dark one in the middle. That must be where the Hair Tree grows.’

Buttons was very excited, ‘Let’s go. ’. Running as fast as their legs could carry them, they came to a giant waterfall. Lance whispered,
‘Don’t make a sound or move suddenly. Can you see that creature half hidden in the trees?’
